Something Sings
Title: Something Sings
Summary: Gay fantasy wedding, GO!
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Update: one-shot
Other: for PWKM, promt was "Phoenix/Edgeworth... with wings." Will try to edit this when I have the free time. Title comes from a song by Libera.

He had heard the rumors of course, they had all heard the rumors. It was one thing for his brother to tell him stories as a child, of the Changelings who had bonded so closely with their allies that they had become one in the same. Of princesses and the knights who saved them, of princes showing bravery and actually taming the ferocity of them, the sky-born as they were called.

It was another thing to stand, watching over the younger children, as their young leader, barely a week after taking that title, stood before a tribe of the sky-born. That was what scared Klavier the most about this war, more then loosing parent and uncle and friend and brother, that things were so bad that creatures of myth had come out of hiding, to join with them in a mad hope that they would not lose, that the world would not be destroyed.

The smaller children clung to him like a lifeline, as if he could really do that much. He was ten, years away from being an adult.

..But then it wasn't like they had many adults these days. The strongest of tribes, a proud line that had lasted longer then any, reduced to women and children. The young boy turned from his thoughts as he heard the youngest child whisper to another, asking why the dragons were visiting them. He interrupted, eyes never leaving their visitors. "Those aren't dragons."

No, dragons did not have the frightening beauty most of them had, bodies like humans but skin of mostly grey and pale green; skin turning to scale at their backs, where wings sprung forth. Great wings, small but strong. Simple black hair, deep blue eyes. Clothes of silk or metal, all offering the barest concealment, like it didn't belong on them. It doesn't, it limits them to only one of their forms.

Most were in that other form, looking like dragons from the old stories but for their all too human eyes, and the hair that still hung from their heads. Their wings was large in size like this, they were large. All that they held within was let go, let free. Klavier would find it awe inspiring if it wasn't so frightening. He was not a fighter, had never been, and could tell the power these beings held.

"Brennus." The sky-born's leader spoke, a friendly voice that almost seemed kind. He stood apart from his people, in 'human' form as he addressed the human tribe's leader by his public name. His skin was the color of persimmon fruits, a pale orange red that reminded the blonde of fire; the wings were a darker color, like rust and larger then some of the others. He was not as beautiful as some of his kind, but there was a certain handsomeness to him. The Changeling looked to be their leader's age, eighteen at most.

"Phoenix." The name seemed to fit, despite all the legends he had heard about dragons and fire birds fighting. Klavier almost missed the look that passed between the two, too lost in his musing. The sky-born grinned at their leader suddenly, taking the steps forward to pull him into a quick hug.

And yes, their leader did fight it, but not as hard as he could have. Maybe this wasn't just a union of convenience, as it seemed like. The two young men separated, a slight frown on their leader's face, but he did not back out of Phoenix's space. "Miles." Tension was there for a moment among the older ones, use of a private name by an outsider. But very soon the sky-born wouldn't be an outsider. "Where is your people's bard?"

It took a moment for Klavier to step forward, remembering yes, that was him. He may watch over the children now, but who he was was Bard, one who sings to recall and make memories. He didn't try to speak, didn't think he could unless to sing, but Phoenix saw him. The children moved farther back, and now the blonde was separated from the rest of the tribe. "Klavier." Miles offered no other intro for the ten year old, and the young bard bowed to the sky-born. He managed to not fall over when the other bowed back.

"Thank you." Phoenix smiled at him, and the boy thought he understood how the Changeling had managed to break through their leader's icy exterior.

There was no more speaking after that, only music and dance that joined together two lives, and two tribes, just as it had always been in their tribe. No one spoke when the music stopped, and the two men flew off, Miles held tight and precious in Phoenix's arms. All simply watched, until the two men were gone from the horizon.
