Hazy Shade of Winter
Title: Hazy Shade Of Winter
Summary: Faith, and it's cost
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Update: one-shot
Other: for PWKM, promt was "I have been dying to see a Phoenix Wright/Death Note crossover so if anonymous could muster up something involving my two favorite prosecutors Miles Edgeworth and Teru Mikami I would be ever so grateful."

Edgeworth, unlike most, had kept his eye open while in college. It was expected, that he stay as well informed as always even as he studied for all his tests, filled his mind as much as possible as he grew close to the finish line. So when they had a young speaker from Japan, Edgeworth was very aware of who he was.

Teru Mikami, twenty six years old and a prosecutor with quite a reputation in Japan. He had seen some of the other's cases while studying, and the man seemed good at his job. He seemed even better after hearing the lecture, the light haired teen glad he had brought his notebook with him as he took note after note. As the other students left, Edgeworth slowly made his way towards the other man, meaning to just give him a word or two of thanks. He was not expecting the smile the other gave him when he saw the teen heading his way.

"Miles Edgeworth?" Clear English, better then most natives. The young prodigy managed to not show any shock as he took the other's hand.

"Yes, it's nice to meet you sir. Your talk was interesting."

"I'm glad you enjoyed it." Still that smile, as they let go of each other and Mikami went back to gathering his things. "If you're free, would you mind joining me for lunch?"

"I would be honored." He also would like to know how the other man knew him, but he let it go for now.

"I hope I didn't seem rude, I was just curious. One of the two protégé of the famous prosecutor Von Karma, and to already be as far along in your education as you are." Others had said the same, but it wasn't empty words in this case. The dark haired man wasn't trying to win the seventeen year old because of his 'father', he actually was simply curious. That fact made Edgeworth curious in turn.

"You didn't. I'd read about you before, sir, and it was nice to get a chance to actually see you." Mikami raised an eyebrow, expression saying his question for him. "...You did rise rather quickly in Japan, and have had some rather remarkable trials. I've studied some of them."

"I was just making sure that justice was met. Evil should not be allowed to walk free, and the truth should always win. But we live in a rotten world, so we must fight for that to happen."

The words were said like a pastor delivering a sermon, a general giving his speech. Edgeworth could tell Mikami believed it down to his very soul, and didn't mind showing it to others. "I suppose I can skip my next question, why you became a prosecutor." The other smiled again, and the teen almost found himself smiling back.

It was a cold February, and a eighteen year old, silver haired teen stepped out of the plain. It was his first time in Japan, and was a short visit. He never mentioned details to others, about why he went; There was rumors, that he'd went to the funeral of one of Kira's supporters of all things. He ignored what others said, as in years to come he would ignore rumors as he got the nickname Demon Prosecutor, as people started to think he would go to any means, legal or otherwise to win. He came home colder, more reserved, and with a few less letters then before. Mikami had been insane, and an idiot. He had been an idiot to look up to the other.

Somehow, that thought only made him feel worse.
